The actual fit/ circumference of the vest is maintained by the chest and abdominal straps. It is essentially the same between all vests. The STANDARD vest size for the vast majority of people is the size designation S/M (even those who wear L/XL shirts). For those individuals who are much bigger in size (2 XL-3XL or higher shirt size) the L/XL vest adds 1 inch in length and 0.5 inch in width to the front and back garment panels. I got one of these vests for my son for Christmas. It is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. The vest really let's the user know what is going on, and it is not subtle. It doesn't hurt, but you definitely known when you're getting hit. I'm not a real gamer like my son, but I tried it out with my son and we were laughing out loud.
The vest is also very well constructed. You can tell when you pull it out of the box, and when you put it on, that this is a quality product.
