Whats worse is that the manufacturer does not stand behind their safe and only offered me to buy another one (refurbished) for $199. Definitely cannot recommend this product for keeping things secure.

Poor Construction and even worse customer service!May 11, 2010

The unit arrived, I installed it (easy) and it worked great for a week.
I call SecureLogic which is really ETL Products? and I talk to customer service.
They instruct me to pull the unit out of the wall and take the back off to check the wires(have you ever heard of a company actually asking you to open up a product while under warranty?) to see the solenoid door release wire fell off! There are 6 copper lugs resistance welded to the stainless faceplate (2 out of the 6 bolts were missing and 3 more came off as I was trying to remove the locking nut. I call customer service back and they now tell me that I need to send the unit back to them for repair. I asked for a replacement, they said they can't do that.
I can only imagine a good yank on the cover (when it is lagged into the wall) would probably pop the bottom lags and opening the safe by "hand" would be pretty easy from that point for even the dumbest crook or teenager trying to get access to a firearm.
So now I have a hole in the wall and a box full scrap metal awaiting an RTA, save yourself the trouble and stick with Sentry or another established name that actually stands by their product.

I generally don't give such a bad review for a product but this one takes the cake: the unit stopped working after about 4 months (warranty is for 3 months). The product is not built well: very poor quality control. It came with loose parts and some rattling in the electronics behind the keypad. So after 4 months the keypad doesn't work anymore. I now resort to use the manual key. My wife is very upset and wants me to rip it out of the studs and do something with it. So be warned. Those reviewers who love this product must have gotten ones built in a different country than mine and with better quality control. BTW, the SLA battery needs to be replaced periodically and this one is not cheap.

I love this product. I bought this for my husband's birthday to keep our handgun and some other valuables in. People who complain about it being broken into are missing the point. It is very strong and sturdy, but it's not a 3-inch thick solid steel freestanding safe. If you have it in full view on your wall and you leave for vacation and someone breaks into your house, the thieves, WILL find a way inside, even if they have to hack it out of the wall. The whole idea is to put it somewhere where it will go unseen/unnoticed by robbers or curious kids, but which allows quick and easy access to firearms/valuables, and it does this very well. We have a 1.5-year-old and one on the way, and they will never even know this safe exists. It does beep when you punch in the numbers, but this doesn't bother me. Once installed, it works perfectly every time.
Room for improvement: A light-up keypad would be nice for use in the dark. The instructions are trash. When you get this item and you plug it in for the first time, it makes a horrible buzzing sound and the instructions never mention anything about this, so it took awhile for us to realize this wasn't some kind of short. The reason is that the safe power button (located on the upper inside) is in the "off" position. It is necessary to use the keys to manually open the safe and turn it on in order to stop the buzzing and to set your secret code. Unfortunately, the directions don't tell you this...they just tell you to start trying to set the code, which cannot be done without opening it manually first and turning the safe on. The rest of the instructions aren't great, but you can muddle through. Just use a stud-finder, saw through the drywall, and screw it to the studs. A warning: The screws are WAY too big for the 1/8-inch hole they have you drill into the studs. You will never be able to screw it into the holes without stripping the screws. Use a 3/8-inch bit to drill your starter holes and it will go much better for you and still be locked in tight.
Bottom Line: LOVE the product. VERY James Bond. Hubby went nuts :) Best gift ever! HATED the instructions though.

Nice - well thought out product, very easy to install. It does make a somewhat loud thunk when the door hits the bottom stop, but if you hold your hand under it, this can be avoided. Over all I think this product will function perfectly as a quick access safe. High value items would still be better off in a more conventional (heavy safe)as someone with enough time could remove it from the wall and take it with them.
