Works with my ipod, and all my other gizmos. Great for books on tape or OTR as your drifting of to sleep. Recently had back surgery and used the heck out of this when I couldnt sleep. Very nice.
 Too uncomfortable to lie on itAug 23, 2010
The thicker the pillow speaker, the more it hurts my ears to lay on it. This pillow speaker is unsatisfactory because it is very thick and the speakers have sharp edges,so you could never use it without the foam cover. However, the foam cover makes it even thicker and it becomes very uncomfortable to lie on under a pillow. After awhile my ears begin to hurt. I used it for a long time anyway until I found one that really works well, the C. Crane - Pillow Speaker PS2. It also comes with a soft cover on it, but it works best if you remove it from the cover as it makes the speaker much thinner instead of feeling like a lump under your pillow. Because the Crane speaker is saucer shaped and has no sharp edges you can remove the cover from the Crane version, and it is thin and smooth enough to be undetectable under a normal pillow.
DOES NOT WORK FOR SPEECH AUDIO (PZIZZ OR PODCASTS)!Aug 05, 2010
I bought these with the specific intention of using the iPhone sleep app pzizz, which plays both music and speech audio. Unfortunately, you cannot hear the speech at all!
To make sure I wasn't losing my hearing and just couldn't hear it through my pillow, I put my ear directly next to the pillow speaker and STILL couldn't hear any speech! Then I unplugged the pillow speaker and yes, the text audio was playing. So it wasn't just a matter of the speech being muffled through my own pillow--there was simply NO speech coming out at all!
I thought that was very strange (since the music was just fine) so I tried a random song on my iPod and I was able to hear that words were playing--but it was definitely muffled through the pillow. Granted, if you were listening to music through your pillow, you wouldn't be listening specifically to the words, but rather just the music piece as a whole...but if you want to hear the words, you're out of luck. Again, I put my ear directly to the pillow speaker to see if the words were any clearer--and they weren't! They were REALLY garbled. I thought maybe it was just a bad connection, but playing with the headphone jack did nothing. And that wouldn't even explain why I couldn't hear ANY words at all in the pzizz app.
My last trial was a podcast, which is all spoken. And even with my phone at full volume, the podcast was SO quiet directly next to my ear that there was NO way I would be able to hear anything through my pillow.
I sooooo wanted to love these, but they're going back. If you just want to hear things like your thunderstorm or rainforest music, they would work fine. But if you want to actually LISTEN to what is being said, forget about it.

The first Pillowsonic Stereo Pillow Speakers I ordered malfunctioned within days of receipt. The plug did not work at all with my MacBook Pro computer and only sporadically with my portable video viewer. After about 10 days, the right channel quite working.
The replacement speakers seem to be doing better after the first week. They work with my MacBook Pro and with the video viewer, and so far both channels are functioning as they should.
A useful feature would be an inline volume control.
I will reserve a better score (now three stars, maybe higher in the future) according to how the speakers perform over time.

These speakers were great but after about 6 months the sound was so distorted I can not even make out the words being said in a movie from one of the two speakers. It is about year after I bought this item and the second speaker is starting to go. Given the cost and assortment of competitors, I just feel liked the company jipped me on the quality to make an extra few pennies. Plus I just don't like the idea of adding one of these guys to the landfill every year.
