Really liked the watch but flimsy constructionApr 07, 2011
By Matthew Hengst I've used this watch on trips all over the Sierra and even got to the point where I'd wear it to work. Unfortunately the joint between the clip and the watch itself is prone to breaking, I've had two fail in the exact same way.

good all-around toolOct 04, 2011
By Bob
I bought this device to replace a Suunto pendulum altimeter that was too fussy to use and burned rapidly through batteries. I bought the Suunto to replace a High-Gear altimeter wristwatch when its alarm mysteriously began to fail.
Generally this is a very good tool - I like its altimeter's accuracy and it is easy enough to navigate through the menus. One thing missing from this device that I really liked on the High Gear wristwatch is a lap function in the stopwatch.
Do not fool yourself- this is a low-cost electronic device. You shouldn't expect it to have the weight and dependability of a high-end device. That said, I believe it is solidly built for its price range.
Good features: the carabiner works well for mountaineering. It's a more intelligent design to clip this device to your backpack than to bury it under several layers on your wrist. The readout is aligned properly for use with the carabiner. The control buttons are large enough to use without taking off your (thinner) gloves. The watch folds into an upright position for tabletop use.

Alti Tech works like I expectedSep 17, 2011
By Kevin Marsh The Highgear AltiTech has worked very well for me on the several hikes I've been on since I bought it. I was looking mostly for a multi-purpose item to attach to my belt to keep time and whatever other functions I could find for hiking. The AltiTech fills the gap. The altimeter does need to be calibrated occasionally for barometric changes but it has been close enough to give me a good idea of my elevation.
