4excellent fins for strong fin swimmers or free diversJan 30, 2010

Swimming with monofins is an absolute blast. It changes the way how you move in water and how you think about swimming and yourself. In Europe they call it dolphin swimming and the sport is a lot more popular than here in the US. This explains why we have such small selections of monofins here in the states. I am no less but thankful to Finis to make the effort and investment to start producing monofins and making it available for sport that is still is in it's infancy.

The Finis Competitor Monofin made of high quality fiberglass with a durable rubber foot hold. It was designed for more advance swimmers. It is a medium stiff blade which is great if you do not want to have many different fins from a 50 m sprint to miles long touring.
This monofin enables you to go fast (5-6 miles per hour is within your reach) but to me the most important aspect of it is efficiency. It will take you to large distances with much less effort than any traditional style of swimming. It opens up new avenues whether you are looking for speed, want to dive deep without scuba apparatus (free dive), snorkel or swimming long distances in the pool or in the ocean.

some advice:

If you never used one you may want to start with a smaller monofin.

You may want to order a larger foot sized fin to allow room for a sock or neoprene bootie
The rubber foot hold is very tight and unless you use it daily you will welcome some extra room and padding. For short distance competitors having it a tight fit is better.

This is an awesome fin, I highly recommend it. Thank you Finis!
Amazon is as always prompt to ship, has good prices and great to deal with.

The only reason I rated the product 4 stars and not 5 because I think the foot hold could be improved to be more ergonomic.

If you want to see people swimming with this or similar monofins there are some good clips on youtube. You can see swimmers covering 200 meters with one breath of air or going down a 100m deep using dolphin monofin swimming technique.
