1Warning! Ultra fragile!Nov 10, 2007
By AE
We loved using these cups. Great feel. The outside stays cool to touch while the inside stays hot. Very pleasant to drink from them. It's just way too costly for something that breaks so easily. The first cup broke within days. We were so careful with the 2nd cup, washing it promptly by hand, setting it down carefully, and storing it in a special cabinet; however, it didn't last much longer. We thought about ordering more, but it just doesn't make sense if they're this fragile. Perhaps if you want to lock them up for rare occasions. Sorry, we need something we can actually use. We have fine glassware and crystal that we've had for years that is not this fragile. It's a shame, since they're such a pleasure to use.

1Bodum Bistro Double-Wall MugDec 20, 2007
By Robert Raffone "Coffee Lover"
I ordered a pair and when I opened the box one of them was totally shattered. Amazon immediately replaced the item and when the replacement arrived, both cups were totally shattered. The one original cup that somehow survived the shipping process lasted for 3 days and then it cracked after a very gentle bump against another cup. The cups feel good to handle and really do keep beverages warm. The only problem is that for them to last, you must move into a rubber room that is empty except for the Bodum cup!

1Beautiful, functional, disposable.Nov 25, 2007

I have to agree with the other reviewer. Three out of 4 of these are now in the trash. The first one broke when I poured the hot milk and coffee in it. I knew the bottom had cracked when large bubble started forming at the top. The next two broke in the top rack of the dishwasher. I really liked these glasses, they did a nice job keeping beverages hot. The glass is just too thin and fragile.

42 years and still goingMar 28, 2010

I've had these mugs for 2 years. I use them regularly. Lattes look and smell amazing in them. I like that I can put the mugs directly on the tables around my house without using a coaster.

All in all, I think it's most appropriate to compare these mugs to wine glasses. I handle them about as carefully (which means I put them in the dishwasher on the top rack and try not to drop them) and they've held up about as well as a wine glass would. One of the two mugs I own is looking a little etched from the dishwasher, but both are still working great and in one piece. If I washed them by hand I'm sure they'd look newer...but whatever.

If your number one concern is buying some mugs that can take a bit of a beating (like a juice glass...as opposed to a wine glass), buy some ceramic mugs. I like them enough, though, that I'm about to buy some more...

4Yes, they're fragile. They're also very nice mugs.May 07, 2011

The other reviews here may scare you off, because yes, these glass mugs *are* on the fragile side. Only a month or two after buying a two-mug set in a brick-and-mortar store, one of the mugs cracked, and it wasn't because of my usual fumble-fingered handling. That is, I didn't drop it or do anything naughty. The mug just cracked and had to be dumped.

But we liked the mugs so much -- and fought over the remaining one -- that I had to order an additional set.

First, they really do keep your coffee warm for longer than the standard coffee mug. And they're pretty, in a functional sort of way, with a comfortable-to-the-hand heft. They hold a non-wimpy amount of liquid, so you can pour yourself a big mug full of liquid-of-choice without needing to get up for a refill. Yet even with boiling hot coffee in the mug, you can hold the mug in your hand comfortably. Plus (and I confess this was a selling point for us) they're short and squat so they fit under the spigot for our espresso/coffee maker.

None of these are earth-shattering features. But I liked the mugs despite their fragility, and you might feel the same way. I'll just be especially careful with them.
