A great idea, a few loose endsOct 25, 2007

I own the 36" wanderer flowboard, and I have spent a few days with it. It is a lot of fun currently, and I went down my first constant downslope hill today, which was great. The feel of this board is very fluid, yet uncontrolled, a dyonysian experience of adrenaline and flow, where one may not expect to find it: on pavement.
The inner three wheels are soft, grippy, white rubber like what you might find on a pair of rollerblades, while the outer four (two on each side) are slightly harder, black wheels for scraping and sliding to slow yourself.
While riding, I preferred staying on the white wheels for a smoother ride until I really felt the need to carve harder to stay on path, during which the black wheels provided a rougher ride.
The bearings of my stock flowboard are abysmal. when spun with my hand, the wheels come to a quick stop in .7 seconds. If you buy a flowboard, be prepared to spend another 20 dollars for quality ball bearings for a faster ride. The bearings are problematic because they keep your speed down even on a downhill, so if you are gaining speed on a downhill, and a slight uphill is ahead, you will come to a frictional stop before the uphill, at which point you will need to push with your foot.
I would recomend buying a flowboard because it is a really unique and interesting ride (not all that close to the snowboarding/ surfing feel flowlab was striving for) but get the cheapest one you can so you have money for new ball bearings. Amazon.com has kooky pricing on these things so you can find cheaper ones that are better than more expensive ones.
