Not for people with small handsDec 07, 2009

This product may be fine for people with larger hands but for me it doesn't work at all. Even the smallest finger holes are too big for my fingers and slip down my finger when I try to extend them. In addition, the wrist strap does not secure the device down, no matter how tight I make it, so when I attempt to extend the fingers it slides up the wrist. Both of these make it impossible to use this device to exercise my fingers.

Xtensor Hand Strengthening DeviceSep 06, 2009
By A. Depew Not a bad product overall. Use of this product has produced some improvement in finger dexterity and strength. Which has helped with my guitar lessons. The major drawback is the durability of the individual finger exercise bands. Even with pre-stretching the bands as stated in the manual, I have found the bands only last a week to 10 days at the most. I use slow controlled movements, so I don't see "rebound shock" breakage to be a contributing factor to the bands breaking. There are extra finger bands included with the original pkg, but once those are gone, you have to order new replacement bands from the company. So I guess if you are looking for a device to improve your extension finger strength/dexterity and willing to accept some equipment durability issues this product may be worth a look.

Flashy Product, Poor CraftsmanshipNov 23, 2009
By Andie Marshall Often the first generation of a new technology has a lot of bugs. And this is the case with the Xtensor. It's a great looking product and it will work your forearm, but the rubber bands both-- slip out of their sockets and break-- so easily that you'll be a lot more annoyed with the manufacturer than you will be strengthened or sore from its use.
If I had it to do again, I'd pass. But if you do decide to purchase this overpriced piece of plastic, do yourself a favor: go to the manufacturer's website (the only place you can get them) and buy a couple of packets of replacement bands straight away because you're definitely going to need them. I needed replacement bands within the first 10 days of use.

better than expected...Nov 26, 2010

I've had this product for over a year. It definitely helped me recover from my tendonitis and when I use it regularly I stay injury free. I climb regularly 3-5x a week, i'm 6'3" and have large hands. I use every size band and I expected them to break, the first time I broke all the bands I called the company to find out where and how I could get replacements, they sent me 3 sets at no charge. When I broke the thumb band they sent me a new thumb band and more finger bands at no charge. Now I think I'll have to pay for some new bands but I've been happy with the product and the customer support.

The very best hand Extension training toolNov 26, 2011
By Stardreamers The Xtensor Training Grip is unique in some vital ways. First, unlike many easy to find hand training aids, this training tool allows for Outward extension of the muscles instead of the squeezing, Inward kind--such as the grip type muscle man tools. I can testify that after an extreme hand injury of which I suffered, squeezing only made my situation worse. Besides, one only needs anything soft to squeeze to get that type of beneficial effect.
The Xtensor is works outward and "releases" locked muscles and tendons. The flexing outward motion feels liberating. One doesn't feel like they are trying to be strenuous or building strength. No, with this training tool, the name of the game is to STRETCH the muscles of the hand out and release the gnawing type pain that creates a claw like hand restriction.
The breaking bands is really no big deal. For such a unique tool costing enormously less than the benefits, the small cost of having to revitalize the Xtensor periodically with new finger bands is no big deal. The tool itself is built like a tank. The fingerband replacements are very cheap, and, in all honesty, don't need to be replaced all that often. To use an analogy, does a tennis player mope because they have to buy new tennis balls on occasion, or have to restring their racket on occasion? Does a basketball player cry foul because he/she has to buy an inflator and needles to fill up the ball on occasion? I could go on and on. Simply put, it is extremely unfair that this excellent and pain relieving tool gets a few bad ratings because it requires occasional and inexpensive maintenance.
This tool is simply indespensible to those who have almost any kind of hand pain as the extension of the fingers in toto or isolation using this device brings with such soothing relief. I find the Xtensor a brilliant innovative device.
Lastly, keep in mind that this tool is an award winning design for pain relief, and that the manufactorer has designed a whole new reformulation for the breaking finger bands. I asked for , and I got a replacement set of finger bands. If they are even marginally longer lasting then that is a bonus; I already explained that a 30 dollar investment for me plus 15 dollars a year for replacement bands far exceeds the relief that the Xtensor brings. It's all attitude, really.
I hope this review helps those who want to buy this excellent device and who may have been scared off by the occasional breaking finger band. The Xtensor is rock solid, the replacement bands are very cheap, and the relief is oh so much worth the cost and effort.
Michael
